Pardon my rant!

I just perused Slotkin’s new Anti­etam book. What a piece of crap! Fac­tual errors abound, accu­sa­tions unsup­ported by facts, sloppy analy­sis, mostly using sec­ondary sources. Ama­teur­ish at best! Save your money and buy Den­nis Frye’s Sep­tem­ber Sus­pense or bet­ter yet, wait until Sep­tem­ber for Vol. II of Carman’s manuscript.

    I was asked to do a review of the book as well and I started and stopped with the South Moun­tain por­tion of the book. Lots of his­tor­i­cal infor­ma­tion in that chap­ter alone is incor­rect. Didn’t ven­ture into the Anti­etam por­tion of it.

    For those who do not rec­og­nize John’s name, he is an author­ity on the South Moun­tain bat­tle, and knows what he’s talk­ing about!
