Mary­land Cam­paign Vol 2 Vol­ume Two of Ezra Carman’s man­u­script has finally arrived! Find it on Ama­zon, Barnes & Noble or the WMIA Museum Store at Anti­etam. By far the most com­plete work avail­able on the bat­tle, and includes pho­tos from the era Car­man was work­ing, and also his maps to illus­trate the bat­tle action.

150 Years Ago today

Con­fed­er­ate troops marched into Fred­er­ick today, few cel­e­brated their arrival. One lady remarked that she could smell them com­ing before she could see them. Gen. McClel­lan began push­ing troops west­ward to Rockville in order to block any attacks on the capital.

150 years ago today

Today Lee’s inva­sion of Mary­land began in earnest as the bulk of his army crossed the Potomac River, join­ing D.H. Hill’s divi­sion which crossed the day before.
